Health care
This page serves as a brief information pack on student health care. If you have any questions or concerns with health care, please don't hesitate to contact Tamy's Secretary for Social Welfare Affairs.
FSHS
The Finnish Student Health Service (FSHS) provides basic degree students with health services in Finnish university towns. Units associated with the University of Tampere are:
- Tampere Kalevantie Unit. Kalevantie 3, 33014 University of Tampere.
- Tampere Hervanta Unit. Korkeakoulunkatu 3, 33720 Tampere.
- Pori Branch Unit. (Outsourcing service.) Pohjois-Porin terveysasema, Siltapuistokatu 2, 2nd floor, room 5 (Only for students who study in Pori University Consortium.)
For phone numbers, opening hours and exceptions in schedule, please visit each Unit's website.
You pay your FSHS health care fee as a part of the Student Union's membership fee every year. It cannot be paid separately. The FSHS fee entitles you to free appointments with a general practitioner or a public health nurse, to a free first counselling with a psychologist, and to free laboratory and X-ray examinations with referral.
For other services, such as appointments with a specialist or dental health services, there is a small fee (€4–22.50 per appointment). In these cases, the FSHS e-mails you your invoice. For more information about free and fee-paying services, visit the FSHS's website.
Communal health services
The FSHS is the primary health care provider for students. However, the Student Health Centres are closed during nights and weekends. If you require acute medical help when the Health Centres are closed, you will need to use the health services offered by private clinics, the municipal telephone health service or, in urgent need of medical treatment, to go to the emergency clinic Acuta at the Tampere University Hospital. In Pori, you can turn to Satakunta Central Hospital in case of emergency.
