Student card

Your student card identifies you as a member of Tamy and gives you access to a number of student discounts and services available. In addition, your student card functions as your University library card and a key card to University computer labs. It can even be used as a prepaid lunch card in the Juvenes student restaurants.

Before applying for a student card, you must pay the Tamy membership fee and register at the University. Student card application forms are available at the Registrar's Office (Aktuaarinkanslia) in the University Main Building. Please, do not send a student card application if your studies do not begin in the autumn semester, or if you already have a student card issued by the Student Union of the University of Tampere.

Once your card is ready, you can collect it from Tamy's General Office (Kauppakatu 10, second floor). This usually takes three weeks after you have paid your Student Union membership fee, registered at the University and filled in the student card application form. Check out the list of student cards ready to be collected on Tamy's website to see if yours is ready: www10.uta.fi/Kortit/Kortit/index.html. If your student number appears on the list, your card is ready to be collected. Please note that the list doesn't include postgraduate student cards.

The student card costs 5 euros and must be paid in cash. Please bring an identification card (with a photo) or a passport with you when you collect your student card.

Your student card entitles you to numerous benefits and discounts. The student restaurants at the University, for example, offer discounted meals for students, but you can also find discounts in many restaurants and bars around the town, as well as in several theatres, museums and shops. Students get 50 % off from tickets sold by the Finnish Railways (VR) and long distance bus companies, and are offered discounts on Tampere City Transport (TKL). And in case of health concerns, contact the Finnish Student Health Service (FSHS), which provides affordable health services including medical treatment as well as mental and dental health services.
