The Night of the Forgotten Pubs, NFP in short, will take students on a voyage around the forgotten and hidden pearls of Tampere. Pubs, restaurants and all other establishments that fit the bill are located near the centre of Tampere, and the locomotive means of preference is by walking. The event is free, and the participants will receive a map and a battle-plan to help them on their way.
Drinking will be at your own expense, but the top-notch marketing team that is Bosa, seeks to get student-friendly discounts from all the establishments.
The start will be at 6 p.m. from Sorin Klubi (Vuolteenkatu 20).
The optional, though encouraged, dresscode is the colour yellow, but do not despair if your wardrobe does not include such a garment since the event is strictly informal. For the 31st time, the Student Union of the University of Tampere organizes the Women Culture Days – an event of feminist studies, art and activities. This year's event is called Rokitus – Rock it grrrl! As the name suggests, the event revolves around music, which is a means to interpret emotions as well as politics.
Come blow education bubbles in the Main Building lobby on Thursday 17 November at 11.45 a.m.! In the event, we will present the University government with a petition where we demand the University to stop flirting with fee-paying education. The traditional Downtown Orienteering is a fun, tongue-in-cheek competition that is organized in the beginning of the autumn term, on Wednesday 11 September 2013, beginning at 4 p.m.
In Downtown Orienteering, freshman teams (more seasoned students may participate as well) collect points by finding control points marked in their maps and solving fun exercises (e.g. completing trick tracks, writing poems, doing woodwork or crafts, taking pictures – anything is possible). Control point organizers consist mainly of student associations and hobby associations, but other parties cooperating with Tamy and the University of Tampere also take part.
The team with the most points (i.e. the most first places among control point organizers) wins and is rewarded at the afterparty. Moreover, the teams with best costumes and with best attitude will be rewarded.
All in all, Downtown Orienteering is about going all-in and sporting a positive attitude. Dressing up in an original and individual way is highly encouraged! Teams also often come up with mottos for themselves. Very often it is not the perfect performance that wins but the most original team (or the team that bribes the control point organizers).
You'll find more on Downtown Orienteering 2012 below. In 2013, sign-up for control point organizers and competing teams starts in August and ends in the beginning of September. Further information will be updated on this page during the summer and shared on email lists and Tamy's Facebook page.
This year, Downtown Orienteering takes place on Tuesday 11 September 2012. An afterparty is thrown in the Viihdenmaailma Ilona in Verkatehtaankatu 3.
The first teams start at 4.30 p.m. and the afterparty in Ilona kicks off at 9 p.m. The team with the most points wins Tamy's Grand Prix Prize.
For the second time ever, orienteers and control point organizers alike can get a Downtown Orienteering badge for their overalls! The badge (on the right) costs €2 and is sold at the finish line. What could be a better souvenir from Downtown Orienteering?
The first teams start at 4.30 p.m. at the stone stairway outside the Pinni B building on main campus.
1. Assemble a team and name it. The ideal size for a team is five people, but it is alright to deviate from this a little. Come up with a motto for your team. Originality is a significant asset in Downtown Orienteering!
2. Registration for teams has closed. The time for your team's start will be emailed to the given address no later than Monday 10 September.
3. Arrive as a team to the announced starting location on time, about ten minutes before your announced starting time. At the starting location, you will receive a map with the control points marked on it. Please do not hesitate to approach the send-off officials, as they will provide you with your map and instructions and eventually send your team off.
4. Find and visit all the control points. Downtown Orienteering is not a speed race! The control points close at 8.30 p.m. at the latest. The main idea is to have fun. Keep in mind, however, that you represent all university students!
5. Be at Viihdemaailma Ilona (in Verkatehtaankatu 3) before 10 p.m.! Doors open at 9 p.m.

As the name suggests, the Grand Opening Party is a party that kicks off the academic year. Usually thrown in the first week of September, the Grand Opening has traditionally been one of Tamy's most popular events.
This year the Grand Opening is organized together with the University for the first time, so it's going to be better than ever! Our meaning is to extend the event to last the whole of the University opening day, so there will be activities available throughout the day. Further information on the day's programme and activities will come out during the summer.
Grand Opening in 2012
In 2011, the Grand Opening Party's concept was slightly altered: the party was a one-day event and it was thrown on Friday instead of Tuesday and Wednesday. The greatest change, however, was that all performances were by members of Tamy. The 2012 Grand Opening followed the same concept and was a soaring success.
The Aatemarkkinat Idea Fair is part of Tamy's Organization Week and it takes over the University Main Building's lobby every year at the end of September. In the fair, associations, clubs and other organizations acting in cooperation with the University and the Student Union spread out in the lobby and introduce themselves to students. Come take a tour and see if you can find a new hobby for yourself!
For freshmen, the Aatemarkkinat Idea Fair is an excellent way to start getting to know the communities in their new university and town.
This year Aatemarkkinat Idea Fair is organized on Wednesday 25 September 2013 at 10 a.m.-4 p.m!
Aatemarkkinat Idea Fair in 2012:
Part of Tamy's Organization Week, Aatemarkkinat Idea Fair takes over the entire University Main Building, as organizations spread out in the main lobbies of all three floors and introduce themselves to students. Welcome!
